Where I studied and worked

The job titles matter less than what each seat taught me. How investors think. How founders approach financing. Where companies lose time. And how differently Europe and the US behave. Each entry below ends with that.

Bpifrance

Deeptech financing & France 2030
What I did
Worked on deeptech financing instruments and France 2030 programs. Direct exposure to how public capital evaluates and funds early-stage science.
Context and lessonsShow less
Context
Public-side innovation financing, the instruments European deeptech founders depend on before touching equity.
What it gave me
A working understanding of the non-dilutive stack that most advisors describe from the outside. It's the foundation of the funding sequencing I now recommend.

BNP Paribas

Act for Impact · corporate venture & impact finance
What I did
Analyzed 6 impact funds and evaluated portfolio startups on ESG. Contributed to 2 fundraisings and supported 3 Station F startups hands-on. Co-ran a startup competition with Publicis: 100 applicants, 5 winners.
Context and lessonsShow less
Context
How a major bank finances impact-driven ventures, and where impact finance actually fits inside a retail bank.
Output
The EDHEC thesis: Why and how does the bank support impact entrepreneurship? (confidential)

Menlo Investment Club

Co-founder · SF Bay Area · 2025–2026
What I did
Ran 15 weekly VC and valuation sessions, with 200+ attendees in total. Brought in speakers including Sabeer Bhatia, co-founder of Hotmail. Organized the "Tech & Talk" Summit, connecting students with Sand Hill Road investors.
Context and lessonsShow less
Context
Co-founded the student investment club at Menlo College and ran its Venture Series program.
What it gave me
Teaching VC mechanics every week forces you to actually understand them. And building a community from zero in the Valley taught me how that ecosystem opens, and to whom.

Collaboration Capital

M&A Analyst · Paris · 2022–2023
What I did
Managed 12 client relationships and screened ~35 acquisition targets per mandate. Valued 5 companies (~€80M combined) with financial models, comparables and investor materials.
Context and lessonsShow less
Context
M&A boutique. My first professional seat on the transaction side.
What it gave me
Valuation stopped being theory. When your model supports a real transaction, you learn what makes a number defensible. And what makes a project credible to the person across the table.

FL Tennis Academy

Chief of Staff · Hanoi & Dubai · 2022
What I did
In Hanoi, built the weekly content engine that brought in ~30 new clients a week. In Dubai, managed budgets, financial statements, one audit and three acquisitions.
Context and lessonsShow less
Context
An "Uber for tennis coaching" startup in Vietnam, then CFO-assistant work in Dubai.
What it gave me
My first startup where growth had to be built week by week. And my first look at how founders really decide when the numbers are theirs.

The founder side

I have not only evaluated companies from the financing side. I have also built and advised them directly, and that is where the founder instinct comes from.

King Tut logoKing Tut

Co-founder & CRO. A patented anti-counterfeiting deeptech spun out of ENS-Ulm, selected for the INRIA Startup Studio. I ran the business, financing and go-to-market side. Why it stopped →

Breeze

First place at the Bpifrance Deeptech Hackathon (BIG 2024). A SaaS around lung-cancer treatment, stopped afterwards to focus elsewhere. Proof I can go from zero to a winning concept fast.

Projet R

Co-founder & CRO of a mental-performance sports tech startup. I built the entire business and go-to-market layer. It taught me that the hardest part of a startup is the people, not the product. The full lesson →

Case notes

Two cases, anonymized

Names, products and anything that could identify the companies are left out until the founders agree in writing. Figures marked as reported come from the founder at scoping. They are not audited.

Edtech · AI-assisted learning · Sprint, 2 days

Situation
A three-month-old company with a strong offer and no metrics. Reported at scoping: about €56,000 in revenue, 852 customers, 91% gross margin, and almost entirely organic acquisition.
What was blocking
The company was run by feel. Nothing in place to fund the next stage or to show investors where the margin came from.
What was produced
Three grant applications filed. A 36-month business plan with cash flow and cohort economics. A cap table. A four-tab investor CRM. A pitch deck in two languages. A nine-page narrative master file. A note to prepare the interviews.
What changed
Decisions made during the Sprint: the lifetime-access offer was dropped in favor of a recurring subscription, a profitability rule was set per cohort, the business model was rebuilt market by market, and the product was repositioned between the consumer app and one-to-one tutoring. The grant applications are filed, not yet decided. [to be completed by Galien: outcome once the applications are decided]

Deeptech · new human-computer interface · MVP, go-to-market, market study

Situation
A technically ambitious product with many fronts open at once, and founders absorbed by the technology.
What was blocking
The risk wasn't giving up. It was getting bogged down: keeping pace on everything that isn't the product.
What was produced
Work on the MVP, the go-to-market and the market study, with field interviews. [to be completed by Galien: list of deliverables and number of interviews]
What changed
[to be completed by Galien: what changed for the company, measured or observed]
[to be completed by Galien: client testimonial 1, with written approval]

In their words

A few of the public recommendations on LinkedIn, from clients, colleagues and professors. Quoted as written.

“Galien m'a accompagné sur toute la structuration financière et stratégique de Targumi : business plan, prévisionnel, cap table, dossier R&D pour les subventions et CRM de suivi. Efficace, clair, et une vraie double compétence finance + terrain startup. Je le recommande à tout fondateur en phase de financement.”

Benjamin Maubacq

Founder, Targumi · client

“Working with Galien on my biotech project was extremely valuable. He pushed me to think more strategically, aim higher, and stop underselling the scope of what I was building. His knowledge of the deeptech industry and market dynamics is sharp.”

Jade Marrony

Co-Founder, KORVOS · client

“He brought great analytical rigor to evaluating non-dilutive funding dossiers, while actively connecting founders, labs, and incubators. Highly structured, proactive, and deeply familiar with deeptech financing, Galien is an outstanding partner for any founder navigating early-stage fundraising and go-to-market strategies.”

Valentin Paris

Data & Business Analyst, Observatoire Deeptech, Bpifrance

“Throughout the program, Galien consistently distinguished himself through his efficiency, intellectual rigor, and sharp analytical skills. A prime example was his master's thesis, a mature and insightful comparison of US and European deep tech startup ecosystems.”

Benjamin Cabanes

Director, Deep Tech Entrepreneurship & Innovation Master's, Mines Paris–PSL

“Galien consistently demonstrated strong leadership potential and an impressive ability to connect big-picture strategy with practical execution.”

Steven Weiner

President, Menlo College

Education

Three schools, two continents, one through-line: finance first, then deeptech, then fintech from inside Silicon Valley.

EDHEC → Finance

BBA Corporate Finance, major in VC and Sustainable Finance, double degree in Dublin. The finance foundation under everything else.

Menlo College → FinTech

MS FinTech, in Silicon Valley, inside the ecosystem it studies. Financial modeling and valuation, blockchain, NLP, a capstone that became a published paper, and the Venture Series alongside.

18 credentials and certifications, all verifiable on LinkedIn. Including CFA preparation, Bloomberg, Stanford, HEC, Bocconi and LVMH programs.

How I keep track of it all

A working map, not an address book

I keep a working map of investors, funders, founders, corporates and institutions. It tells me who is relevant, for what, and when. It's a tool I use every day, not a product I sell. When a founder needs the right person, the introduction comes from here, not from a cold list.

8,500+
People & organizations mapped
4
CRM workbooks
57
In-depth interviews
FR ↔ US
Both ecosystems

8,500+ is the size of the map, not of my address book. It's structured so the right introduction is one search away.
